The Canadian Mint, like others countries across the world have rushed to make various collectible (numismatic) silver coins.  The purity of the mint’s silver, the quality of their dies, the metal's luster, and the lower limited strike numbers make them highly prized.

An example of this is their $10 Fine Silver Coin. Highway of Heroes (2011) is limited to a mintage of 25,000 coins worldwide.  The proceeds from this coin go to various organizations that assist Canadian military personnel and their families. The 1/2 oz (15.87gram) silver coin is 34mm in diameter with a reeded edge.  It depicts a crowd of mourners with Canadian flags gathered on the Cranberry Road bridge as a cavalcade transport the fallen Canadian soldiers and their families. The obverse depicts Queen Elizabeth II facing right with “ELIZABETH II” encircling the left and “D.G.REGINA” encircling the right. The reverse has the Canadian Maple Leaf but in front of it there is a depiction of the spontaneous event on the bridge.  The date is on the right and encircling the top is “CANADA” then a Canadian military medal of honor and “10 DOLLARS”.
One of Canada’s top engravers, Corrine Hunt, has designed 4 silver coin reverses.  These are limited to 10,000 each and celebrate the Canadian wilderness using a very distinctive take on Kwakwaka’wakw and Tlingit forms. One depicts an Orca Whale, another has a Wood Bison, the next a Peregrine Falcon, and then the last ‘Boreal Forest’ has a woodpecker and pine tree.  They all have “CANADA.” and date encircling the top, and ”10 DOLLARS” at the bottom. The obverse depicts Queen Elizabeth II facing right with “ELIZABETH II” encircling the left and “D.G.REGINA” encircling the right.  These silver coins are 1/2oz (15.87 grams) of 99.99% pure silver, 34mm in diameter, with reeded edge, and 10 dollars Canadian denominational.

These and a few dozen other different fine silver Canadian coins are available and more are on the way: There will be $20 fine silver coins for the 2012 Royal Diamond Jubilee, another for the Royal Cypher Diamond Jubilee and then the $20 Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip Diamond Jubilee.  These will be 1oz (31.39 grams) 99.99% silver coins with a reeded edge.  Both will be limited to a mintage of 15,000 each.
